The Brackenridge Recreation Complex is excited to announce the return of Texana Nature Day, with this year's event featuring an exciting new theme: Turtle Edition! Following last year's successful Texana Gator Day, the annual event returns on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Texana Community Education Center, located inside Texana Park & Campground.
Designed to inspire curiosity and appreciation for the natural world, Texana Nature Day offers an engaging experience for visitors of all ages through hands-on activities, live wildlife education, and opportunities to learn from experts dedicated to wildlife conservation.
This year's event will spotlight turtles and tortoises from around the world with two special educational presentations:
- 11:00 a.m. – Sal Scibetta of Alligator Snapping Turtle Research will present an educational program highlighting one of North America's most fascinating freshwater reptiles.
- 1:00 p.m. – Dr. Cord Offermann, specializing in Galapagos Tortoise Research, will share insights into the world's largest tortoise species, conservation efforts, and ongoing research.
In addition to the featured presentations, guests can enjoy:
- Informational booths hosted by various wildlife & conservation organizations
- Face painting
- Craft zone
- Inflatable fun
- Food Vendors
For only $5 per person, one of the day's most anticipated attractions will be the opportunity to feed a tortoise and take a memorable photo, giving guests an up-close encounter with these incredible animals!
Admission is $5 per vehicle, and the event is FREE for Brackenridge Recreation Complex campers!
