Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Show!

The Brackenridge Independence Day Celebration will be held Saturday, July 5th at Brackenridge Park & Campground and is sponsored by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority.

This year’s event will include a Family Obstacle Course Competition, Puzzle Competition, Red, White and Blue Bingo, Watermelon Eating Contest, the Ride’em-Push’em-Pull’em Parade, DJ Dance, and of course… FIREWORKS!! All activities are FREE for our campground guests and the public, except for the Puzzle Competition! See details below.

First up at 10:00 AM is our Family Obstacle Course Competition! The course is located inside of Brackenridge Park at the playground area between the pull thru sites and the first camping circle. There will be 8 stations set up and ready for competitors to take on the challenge! The first station will be the famous “American Ninja Warrior Steps” followed by a sack race, tire race, army crawl, wall climb, swaying steps on a wooden bridge, balance beam, and it finishes with a hay slide! Each team must consist of 5 members. Participants must be 6 years of age or older. So, round up the kids, parents, and maybe even the grandparents to build your team. Registration forms will be available soon online or you may pick up a registration form at the Brackenridge Park Office. On-site registration begins at 9:30 AM at the Obstacle Course. The top 3 teams with the fastest completion time will win medals for the entire group! If you want to show off your patriotic side… we will be giving an award to the team that we deem as most patriotic! This activity is a fan favorite, so gather up your friends and family for some good ole competitive fun!

Next up at 12:00 PM is a NEW activity that we are so excited for! Join us for a Puzzle Competition inside the HHRC at Brackenridge Park! Teams of 4 will compete for the puzzle champion title! Puzzles will be Independence Day themed and have 500 pieces. Pre-registration is REQUIRED! Cost is only $10 per team. Call the Brackenridge Park Office to register TODAY!

As soon as the Puzzle Competition wraps up, stick around for Red, White, and Blue Bingo beginning at 2:00 PM! Participants will be playing for Patriotic Swag! This activity is FREE and open to the public.

While Bingo is underway the next contest is for our camping guests only…it is the Best Decorated Campsite or Cabin Contest! Guests are encouraged to decorate their site in patriotic colors with judging to take place at 2:00 PM. One winner from each park will be chosen. We are looking forward to lots of festively decorated sites!

at 3:30 PM we are hosting not one but two Watermelon Eating Contests! One round will be children ages 9-15 and the other is 16 and up! The contest will be held under the trees behind campsite 43 in Brackenridge Park and is limited to only 30 participants. Registration will begin at 3:00 PM. For age group 9-15, there will be 3 heats of 10 participants with the winner of each heat moving on. In the final round, the first competitor who finished with their watermelon is the winner! In the older heat, there will be 1 heat with 10 participants.

At 5:00 PM, we will gather everyone for the Ride’em-Push’em-Pull’em Parade! Children and adults are encouraged to dress up and decorate their bicycles, strollers and wagons in patriotic colors and participate in this fun parade. We will be choosing one lucky person as our Best Decorative Winner. The Parade will start at the Gator Golf Course parking area and conclude near Comfort Station #2.

Bring an extra set of clothes because there will be 3 water slides available for all kiddos to enjoy from 12:00 - 5:00 pm by the Harry Hafernick Recreation Center parking lot!

From 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM, there will be a DJ dance on the Brackenridge Park Basketball Court with tunes being spun by Dj Stancik!

The FREE Fireworks Show at Brackenridge Park & Campground is scheduled to start just after 9 p.m. The beautiful fireworks display utilizes a wide variety of fireworks effects for maximum impact and audience appeal. Visitors can best view the event by parking in the grassy field across from the Harry Hafernick Recreation Center. Bring your sweet tooth as there will be snack concessions onsite throughout the event!
